Wolfsklamm wasserfälle
The Wolfsklamm wässerfalle are a series of cascades with two major drops in the little village of Stans, Tirol in Austria. Stans is located 30 kilometer east of Innsbruck along road A12.
The way to one of the parkings (there are four P1-P2-P3-P4) is difficult to find. On Google maps you will only find P1 (gps 47.370863, 11.714444) and that one is a paid parking. You have to go early if you want to park here, close to the entrance.
Now it is guessing where you can park, if P1 is full… Sometimes you will see a sign for P4 but where are the other two???? After 10 minutes crossing through Stans we found P3 (47.371256, 11.718404) that also was full and we accidentally we passed the ‘Volksschule’ which is P2, a free parking (47.369008, 11.719107). There is one in front and one in the back of the school. And it is only a 5 minute walk to the entrance of the Wolfsklamm. Then the last one P4, I think this is a small one outside Stans. Later we also found a parking (+garage) near the swimming pool of Stans…..
The Wolfsklamm wässerfalle is the perfect daytrip for a warm sunny day. So when we where at Achenkirch and temperatures where rising to 30C we went to the Wolfsklamm wässerfalle. You have to pay a small admission (€6 in 2024). The gorge is open from 9-16 hours, from 1st May to 31st October.
Keep right after the entrance and cross a sort of gate. Very confusing while the road goes straight ahead, but you have to take the path into the woods going up. The walk isn’t very difficult and suitable for children, although the path keep on going up (but not very steep).
There are multiple waterfalls in the Wolfsklamm and at the beginning they are small but soon you will meet two bigger waterfalls. Don’t expect huge waterfalls but drops of 6-9 meters. It is a gorgeous gorge with wonderful views and we loved it. I took so many pictures. If you like taking photo’s go at the beginning of the afternoon when the sun is shining into the gorge. We went there in the morning so we can have lunch at the end at the river!
A roundtrip through the gorge takes appr 2-3 hour, depending which path you want to walk at the end. You can go left at the end which is the easiest and fastest way back to Stans. If you go right the track takes you over smaller bush paths and it will take an extra 30 minutes. We took the shortest path left and with a lunch a roundtrip took us 2,5 hours.
There are several other nice waterfalls you can visit and the hike to the Buchauer wasserfall and Dalfazer wasserfall is also very nice. The trailhead lies in Maurach, near the Achensee.
