Sigöldugljufur canyon waterfalls

Recently I discovered the waterfalls in the Sigöldugljufur canyon near the end of road 26 in the southern part of Iceland.

From road 1 take the exit to road 26 (northeast of Hella) and drive on following road 26 for 62 km to Sprengisandsleið until there is a sign to Sprengisandur (road 26). Proceed driving on road F26 for another 20 km until there is a road going right (F208). to the south after Hrauneyjalón. After 5 kilometers you can see a waterall called Sigoldufoss at the left side of the road when crossing the river Tungnaá.

The Sigöldugljufur canyon waterfalls are located a little further (3 km) down the road. From road F208 a small trail is leading towards Sigöldugljufur canyon and its waterfalls.

The Sigöldugljufur canyon waterfalls are a series of waterfalls falling down in the river Tungnaá from several small tribute streams. It depends on the amount of water how many waterfalls there are and how powerful. The biggest drop is appr. 20 meter.
