Sässbachfall
Three waterfalls join each other near Batöni (Weisstannen, Mels) in the region Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They all three are coming from the south and are named: Piltschinabachfall, Sässbachfall and Muttenbachfall.
The three waterfalls aren’t easy to reach and need a firm hike. From Mels drive into the Weisstannental. Park the car in Weisstannen near the bridge and busstop (gps 46.989204, 9.343069). From here start walking to the south following the river Gufelbach upstream. It is a 4 kilometer walk (appr. 80-90 min) with and ascend of 500 meter.
The Piltschinabachfall Sässbachfall and Muttenbachfall are 81, 86 and 45 meter high. Individual the waterfalls aren’t that spectacular but seeing all three waterfalls together makes this a special place and very photogenic.
Best time to visit all three waterfalls (Piltschinabachfall, Sässbachfall and Muttenbachfall) is early summer when there is a lot of melted snow and ice coming down from the mountains with several mountain peaks above the 2.500 meter.
