Nixenfall
The Nixenfall is an official named waterfall at the southend of the Attersee near Weissenbach am Attersee in the region Oberösterreich, Austria. From Weissenbach am Attersee it is a 30-40 minute walk along a marked trail, that is also suitable for children.
There is saga about the “Nixe vom Attersee” called Adhara. Nixe means mermaid. She was reponsible for the prosperity of all people living around the Attersee. She brought people gold and gems. But after a while people got greedy and the Nixe retreated into the mountainside Fallendwasser (meaning falling water). From then on she stayed invisible behind the veil of water called the Nixenfall. on the way to the Nixenfall you will find a statue of Nixe vom Attersee.
The Nixenfall itself is a beautiful waterfall perfect for a nice walk with the family. The Nixenfall is low volume waterfall but drops down vertically over 50 meters.
Best time to visit the Nixenfall is from late spring until the early summer. The Nixenfall falls towards the west-northwest and best can be visited in the afternoon.
Another nice waterfall nearby is one in a gorge called Burggrabenklamm.
