Myrkarfoss
(Myrkárfoss)
Myrkárfoss is a waterfall in the south of Iceland along road 1/246 near Nupur, 20 kilometers west of Skogar. From the roadside (1>246) Írárfoss is clearly visible, a 60 meter waterfall downstream from Myrkárfoss. Unfortunately I can’t find any photo of Myrkárfoss any more. Years ago there were photo’s available.
Myrkárfoss is a nice waterfall in the river Myrká, at the crossing with the river Írá. The river Írár has 3 big waterfalls and a few small one. From Írárfoss it is a two hour walk to the Myrkárfoss.
The river Myrká has its source at the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, and flows into the Eyjafjalladjúp (Island Mountain Deep). About 10 kilometers to the west you can find the more famous Seljalandsfoss. To the east you will find several waterfalls near Skogar: Skógafoss, Miðfoss, Neðstifoss, Selvaðsfoss, Kvernufoss, Sellfoss, Dalárfoss, Skálabrekkufoss, Kæfufoss, Gluggafoss, Rollutorfufoss, Fellsfoss, Steinbogafoss, Fosstorfufoss, Hestavaðsfoss and Holtsárfoss.
