Múlafoss (Egilsstaðir)
(Mulafoss)
Múlafoss is a waterfall in the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It is one of many(twenty five) waterfalls in the river Fjarðará.
The origin of the river lies at the Fjarðarheiði plateau, between Seyðisfjörður and Egilsstaðir. Road 93 runs over the plateau and runs up to an altitude of more then 600 meters with beautiful views and in summertime still a lot of snow. If you are making a roundtrip to Iceland and you are near Myvatn (many people do), definitely take road 93/Fjarðarheiði. This is definitely one of the most beautiful roads in Iceland. Also visit Seyðisfjörður, a picturesque village with several unknown waterfalls.
Múlafoss is located 5,5 kilometers west of Seyðisfjörður in de river Fjarðará (Fjord River) River, along road 93. Seyðisfjörður on the East coast is Iceland’s most important harbour, all the ferries from Continental Europe arrive here. Going west from Seyðisfjörður,Múlafoss is on the left side of the road, just before the road goes up.
When driving on road 93 you will see several other beautiful waterfalls: near Egilsstaðir the Fardagafoss with a total height of 80 meters, Gufufoss, 1.5 kilometers from the parking at Fardagafoss. Driving further on to Seyðisfjörður you also pass Mulufoss, 5 kilometers before reaching Seyðisfjörður. In Seyðisfjörður you can also find the Búðareyrarfoss, with a height of 60 meters.
