Cascata da Rocha de Água d’Alte
(cascata da rocha d'água d'alto)
Cascata da Rocha de Água d’Alte is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Portugal, certainly after a rainy period. The waterfall is located near Brunheiras (Vila Nova de Milfontes) in the region Beja at the west coast of Portugal.
From Vila Nova de Milfontes it is only a 15 minute drive and from Lisbon a two hour drive. There is only one problem, people made a mess of their visits and accessing the private property (where the waterfall is located) is prohibited.
I am not sure if you can see the waterfall from a distance but when driving east from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Cercal (road N390) there is a turn right, just outside Brunheiras (near the busstop at the left side of the road – gps 37.763718, -8.743634). I hope you can see the waterfall form here or otherwise I hope there will be a solution for the nuisance so a visit will be possible in the near future.
Cascata da Rocha de Água d’Alte has a 30 meter single drop and is located in a green surrounding. Best time to enjoy this gorgeous waterfall is after a rainy period. In summertime the flow of the river runs almost dry.
