Alteiner Wasserfall
(Alteiner fall, Altein)
The Alteiner Wasserfall is a nice waterfall near Arosa in the region Graubünden, Switzerland. The lower waterfall (alt 1.900 m) in the river Alteinbach is called the Alteiner Wasserfall but upstream (alt 2.100 m) there is a second waterfall without an official name.
From Arosa it is a nice and pleasant walk to the Alteiner Wasserfall. In Arosa drive south to the Untersee. The trailhead lies somewhere behind the Untersee at the Iselweg (gps 46.775311, 9.683140). From here it is a 1,5 kilometer (25 minutes) before you see the the Alteiner Wasserfall. From here it is possible to walk further to the base of the lower part of the waterfall.
It is also possible to walk further up to the base of the biggest drop. Keep left crossing the bridge over the Welschtobelbach. This needs another 30 minutes , 1.5 km with an ascend of 300 meter.
The Alteiner Wasserfall has a total height of total height of 240 meter dropping down over multiple stages. The biggest single drop at the upper part of the Alteiner Wasserfall has a height of appr. 60 meter.
I think best time of the year to visit the Alteiner Wasserfall is early summer when there is a lot of meted snow and ice in the river Alteinbach.
