Stakkholtsgjáfoss is an unofficial named waterfall in the Stakkholtsgjá canyon near Thorsmork in the south of Iceland.
From ringroad 1 drive to the Seljalandsfoss and keep on following road F249 (4wd road) for 27 kilometer heading to Thotsmork (Þórsmörk). The road is also called Þórsmerkurvegur. From road F249 you have to walk to the entrance of the canyon (near gps 63.675206, -19.557745). There are marks for the canyon.
The Stakkholtsgjá canyon is about 2 kilometer long and 100 meter high. A low volume river runs through the canyon. At the end of the canyon is get narrow and here you will find Stakkholtsgjáfoss.
Stakkholtsgjáfoss is appr. 30 meter high and is located in an astonishing surrounding. A walk through the canyon is about 3 kilometer and takes appr. 1,5 hour (roundtrip). More information about the is available at the website of Wikiloc.
