Kalmtaler wasserfall
(Cascata di Valclava, Passeier Wasserfall)
The Kalmtaler wasserfall (sometimes named Passeier wasserfall) is a 48 meter high waterfall south of St Martin in Passeier (west side of the valley) in the region Trentino – Alto Adige, Italy.
From St Martin drive south over road ss44 to Merano. After 1,5 kilometer there is a small residential area. Take the exit right to the Trifterweg. There are no readable signs with wasserfall or cascata. Follow the road two hundred meter and drive over a wooden bridge. Here you will see a parking (gps 46.769832, 11.213125). From the parking it is only a 10 minute walk to the base of the Kalmtaler wasserfall.
From the parking it is very obvious where to go. A clearly visible path leads to a nice viewpoint on the Kalmtaler wasserfall. There are many (big) rocks in the river, always nice to place these in the foreground of your picture. It seems that the single drop is slightly oblique but this must be an optic illusion.
I visited the Kalmtaler wasserfall end of April 2019 and the weather was cold. The week before it was a very warm week and the water flow was quite powerful. Looking at the pictures you should think that it is much higher then 48 meter.
The walk is easy and short but still worthwhile to do when staying nearby in Bolzano or Merano. The Kalmtaler wasserfall lies also near the route to Lago di Garda, so a short stop is one of the possibilities.
After heavy rainfall or when there is a lot of melted snow in the river Kalmbach a second waterfall appears at the right side of the Kalmtaler wasserfall. Unfortunately I wasn’t that lucky. A twinfall is always something special.
Nearby you can find two other awesome waterfalls worthwhile a visit: the Partschinser wasserfall and the Aschlbach wasserfall. Bothe easy to reach.
