Cascades de Gimel

Les Cascades de Gimel are a series of waterfalls with three major and named drops. Les cascades de Gimel are located in a little village with the same name Gimel les Cascades near Tulle in the region Limousin/Corrèze, France.

From Tulle it is a short drive to Saint-Adrian (D1089). There take the exit and go right. From here there are signs for “viewpoint – Gimel les Cascades” over road D9>D53E. In the village, at the monument, you have a nice view on the valley and you can park your car here (gps 45.299879, 1.850448). You can’t see the waterfalls yet. It is a small parking but there is a bigger parking when driving out of the village, near the ‘Mairie’ (road D53E5).

The entrance of parc Vuillier (gps 45.29781, 1.84832) is located just outside the village (400 m) following the road, there are signs. There is a small parking at the entrance but you also can park the car at the parking before crossing the bridge. You have to pay admission (6 euro) to enter the park. Before we went in the parc for Cascades de Gimel we went a little up in the village  to see the castle ‘Chateau de la roche haute‘ and some small shops.

The park is open from March to November at daytime (10-18h, on Wednesday 11-18h and in summertime 10-19h).

There is a trail following the river that leads to all three waterfalls. The trail can be slippery and some part a little steep. A walk leads through a gorgeous surrounding and the roundtrip takes approximately 1 hour. The walk is also suitable for children but the advise is to wear good walking shoes.

Les cascades de Gimel has three major waterfalls, from top to bottom: Grand Saut (45 m), La Redole (38 m) and la Queue de Cheval (60 m) with a total height of 143 meters.

Le Grand Saut is an impressive and powerful waterfall which means big leap. 
La Queue de Cheval is the biggest drop and can be quite powerful. Queue de cheval means ponytail after the shape of the waterfall. 
La Redole is the last waterfall in a row and is actually a waterfall over two stages. After heavy rainfall you won’t notice that it are two stages.
